History of the Marshall County Fair

The Marshall County Fair has been held at its current location on Eastern Twelfth Street in Moundsville, WV since 1948.  The fair is held annually the last week of July.  Four large barns become the temporary home for hundreds of animals that are brought onto the grounds each year for a variety of contests.  It is truly one of the most impressive displays of livestock in the state.  The fair now features two show arenas to accommodate the growing number of livestock competitions, these include the New Arena and the Halley Hubbs Arena. There are breeding and market shows for beef, goats, hogs, rabbits, and sheep.  The dairy industry is also well-represented in Marshall County with both Dairy Goat and Dairy Cattle shows held during the week.   Livestock shows are not only for 4-H & FFA project members, but feature open class competitions, as well.

A variety of horse shows keeps the Lehasky Horse Ring busy during the week.  Halter, pleasure, and contest shows will be highlighted throughout the week.   4-H and FFA members also display completed projects in sewing, cooking, woodworking, photography, gardening, and many others in the 4-H & FFA Exhibit Hall.  The Chesapeake Energy Event’s Building contains open class exhibits in canned goods, farm produce, needlework, and many others, as well as commercial exhibits from the local area.

The Grandstands feature a wide range of track events throughout the week including truck and tractor pulls, antique tractor pulls, and a rodeo!  The Festival Stage will feature the Queen’s Pageant and musical entertainment throughout the week.     Beginning in 2020, Gambill Amusements will provide the carnival and midway. Additional food vendors, commercial vendors, and on-grounds entertainment complete the fair’s schedule of events.  So no matter what you are looking for, the Marshall County Fair is sure to have it…Be sure to come down and see us this July!
